Hair Transplant Risks & Safety
An honest look at the potential risks, how to minimise them, and what makes a safe clinic. We believe informed patients make better decisions.
Potential Risks
Infection
Very RareWith proper sterilisation protocols and post-operative antibiotics, infection risk is extremely low (less than 1%). Reputable clinics maintain hospital-grade hygiene standards.
Scarring
Minimal with FUE/DHIModern FUE and DHI techniques leave only tiny, nearly invisible dot scars. The older FUT (strip) method leaves a linear scar, which is why most Turkish clinics no longer offer it.
Shock Loss
Common (Temporary)Existing hair around the transplant area may temporarily fall out due to the trauma of surgery. This is normal and the hair grows back within 3-6 months.
Unnatural Results
AvoidablePoor hairline design or incorrect graft angles can lead to unnatural-looking results. This is why choosing an experienced surgeon is crucial — it's as much art as science.
Poor Graft Survival
Rare with Good ClinicsIf grafts are handled improperly or left outside the body too long, survival rates drop. Top clinics maintain 90-95%+ graft survival rates through careful protocols.
Numbness
TemporaryTemporary numbness in the donor or recipient area is common and typically resolves within a few weeks to months.
Swelling
Common (Temporary)Forehead swelling is common 2-4 days after the procedure. It resolves on its own and can be managed with medication and sleeping elevated.
