7 Hair Transplant Scams in Turkey
(And How to Avoid Them)

However, the industry's popularity has attracted some bad actors. This guide helps you identify and avoid them.
The Bait-and-Switch Surgeon
The clinic advertises a famous surgeon, but when you arrive, a different (often less experienced) doctor or even a technician performs the procedure. The named surgeon may only appear briefly for a photo.
How to Spot It:
Ask for a written guarantee that the named surgeon will perform the entire procedure. Request a video call with the actual surgeon before booking. Check if the surgeon is listed on the Turkish Medical Association registry.
The 'Unlimited Grafts' Promise
Some clinics promise unlimited grafts for a fixed low price, encouraging patients to extract as many as possible. Over-extraction damages the donor area permanently and reduces graft survival rates.
How to Spot It:
No reputable surgeon offers 'unlimited grafts.' A safe single session is 3,000-4,500 grafts. If a clinic promises 6,000+ grafts in one session, they're either lying or taking dangerous risks.
The Ghost Clinic
A middleman or agency books you into a clinic that exists only on paper. When you arrive, you're taken to a rented operating room in a hotel or apartment building — not a proper medical facility.
How to Spot It:
Verify the clinic's physical address on Google Maps. Check if they're registered with Turkey's Ministry of Health. Look for photos of the actual facility, not just stock images.
The Hidden Fee Trap
The advertised price seems incredibly low, but once you arrive, you're hit with additional charges: anaesthesia fees, medication costs, PRP treatment, aftercare kit, hotel upgrades, etc.
How to Spot It:
Get a detailed, itemised quote in writing before booking. Ask specifically: 'What is NOT included in this price?' Compare total packages, not just headline prices.
Fake Before-and-After Photos
Some clinics use stolen photos from other clinics, heavily edited images, or photos taken under completely different lighting conditions to make results look more dramatic than they are.
How to Spot It:
Ask for unedited photos. Request to see photos from the same patient at multiple time points. Use reverse image search on Google to check if photos appear on other clinic websites.
The Assembly Line Clinic
To maximise profit, some clinics schedule 5-10 patients per day per surgeon. The surgeon designs the hairline, then technicians do everything else. Quality control suffers when volume is prioritised.
How to Spot It:
Ask how many procedures the surgeon performs per day. One to two is ideal. More than three is a red flag. Ask if the surgeon personally performs extraction and implantation.
The No-Aftercare Disappearance
The clinic is responsive and attentive before and during the procedure, but goes silent after you fly home. No follow-up calls, no response to questions, no support during the critical recovery period.
How to Spot It:
Before booking, ask about their aftercare programme. How long does follow-up last? Do they offer video consultations after you return to Canada? Get the aftercare commitment in writing.
