Why Canadians Are Choosing Antalya
While Istanbul gets most of the attention, Antalya has quietly become one of Turkey's top destinations for hair transplant patients — and for good reason. This Mediterranean coastal city combines world-class clinics with something Istanbul cannot offer: beaches, resort-style recovery, and a pace of life that feels more like a holiday than a medical trip.
Antalya is Turkey's tourism capital, welcoming over 15 million visitors a year. The city sits on a dramatic stretch of coastline where the Taurus Mountains meet the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Its old town (Kaleici) is a maze of cobblestone streets, Ottoman-era houses, and Roman ruins. Its modern districts are lined with five-star resorts, upscale restaurants, and pristine beaches that stretch for kilometres.
For Canadian men looking to combine a hair transplant with genuine relaxation and recovery in the sun, Antalya is a destination worth experiencing! The city offers a more laid-back alternative to Istanbul, with the same quality of medical care and even better weather.

Kaleici harbour — the heart of Antalya's charming old town. Roman walls, Ottoman houses, and colourful fishing boats create one of the most photogenic spots on the Mediterranean.

What Should a Hair Transplant Tourist See in Antalya?
Antalya blends ancient history with Mediterranean beauty. Here are the highlights.

Kaleici (Old Town)
The heart of Antalya is Kaleici, a beautifully preserved old town enclosed by ancient Roman walls. Narrow cobblestone streets wind past Ottoman-era wooden houses, boutique hotels, art galleries, and small restaurants. The old harbour at the bottom is one of the most photographed spots in Turkey — colourful boats bobbing in turquoise water with the Taurus Mountains as a backdrop. It is flat, shaded, and perfect for a gentle post-procedure stroll.
Hadrian's Gate
Hadrian's Gate is a stunning Roman triumphal arch built in 130 AD to honour the visit of Emperor Hadrian. It is one of the best-preserved Roman gates in the world and marks the main entrance to Kaleici. The three arched marble gateway is beautifully detailed and makes for an impressive photo. It is right on the main boulevard, so you will likely walk through it multiple times during your stay.

Duden Waterfalls
Antalya has two spectacular Duden Waterfalls. The Lower Duden Waterfall is the more dramatic — a massive cascade that plunges directly off a cliff into the Mediterranean Sea. You can view it from a boat tour or from the cliffside park above. The Upper Duden Waterfall is set in a lush park where you can walk behind the falls through a cave. Both are easy to reach and require minimal physical effort — ideal for recovery days.
Aspendos Theatre
About 45 minutes east of Antalya, the Aspendos Theatre is the best-preserved Roman theatre in the world. Built in 155 AD, it seats 15,000 people and still hosts concerts and performances today. The acoustics are remarkable — a coin dropped on the stage can be heard from the top row. It is one of those places that makes you appreciate the scale of Roman engineering. Easily combined with a visit to the nearby Aspendos Bridge and aqueduct.

The Beaches
Antalya has two main beaches, both exceptional. Konyaalti Beach stretches for 7 kilometres along the western edge of the city, backed by the dramatic Taurus Mountains. Lara Beach to the east is known for its golden sand and luxury all-inclusive resorts. Both have Blue Flag certification for water quality. A sunbed and umbrella rental costs about $3 to $5 CAD for the entire day. Just remember to protect your scalp from direct sun during recovery — a loose hat is essential.
Antalya Museum
The Antalya Museum is one of Turkey's finest, housing an extraordinary collection of artefacts from the Lycian, Pamphylian, and Roman civilisations that once thrived along this coastline. The Gallery of the Gods, with its perfectly preserved Roman statues, is particularly impressive. The museum is fully air-conditioned and requires no physical exertion — an ideal activity for the first couple of days after your procedure.

Mediterranean Boat Tours
One of the best ways to experience Antalya's coastline is from the water. Full-day boat tours depart from the old harbour and cruise along the dramatic cliffs, stopping at hidden coves for swimming and lunch. You will pass the Lower Duden Waterfall from the sea — a truly spectacular sight. Half-day tours cost about $15 to $20 CAD, full-day tours with lunch about $25 to $35 CAD. It is one of the most relaxing ways to spend a recovery day.

The Food: Mediterranean Meets Turkish
Antalya's cuisine blends the best of Turkish cooking with fresh Mediterranean ingredients.
Antalya's food scene benefits from its coastal location and agricultural richness. The region is famous for its citrus orchards, and the local cuisine leans heavily on fresh seafood, grilled meats, and produce that tastes like it was picked that morning — because it probably was.
Start your day with a traditional Turkish breakfast spread (kahvalti) — the same table-covering feast of cheeses, olives, honey, eggs, and fresh bread that you would find in Istanbul, but often with the addition of local Antalya specialties like tahini-molasses and fresh orange juice from the region's famous citrus groves. Most hotels include breakfast, and standalone breakfast restaurants charge about $5 to $10 CAD.
For lunch and dinner, Antalya excels at fresh seafood. The restaurants along the old harbour serve grilled sea bass, prawns, and calamari at prices that would make a Vancouver seafood restaurant blush — a full fish dinner with sides and drinks costs about $10 to $20 CAD. The city is also famous for piyaz (a white bean salad with tahini), tandir kebab (slow-roasted lamb), and sis kofte (grilled meatballs).
If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort on Lara Beach, the food quality at the top-tier resorts is genuinely impressive — multiple restaurants, international cuisines, and unlimited drinks. But we strongly recommend venturing into Kaleici at least once for an authentic local meal.

Piyaz

Tandir Kebab
Slow-roasted lamb, incredibly tender

Turkish Breakfast

Fresh Orange Juice

Baklava
Flaky pastry with pistachios and honey
Eating well in Antalya is effortless regardless of your dietary needs. The resort strip and old town are packed with restaurants serving everything from plant-based Mediterranean bowls to gluten-free grilled seafood. Meze spreads, freshly baked gozleme, and wood-fired pide are vegetarian staples you will find on every menu. All meat is halal by default, and the city's decades of international tourism mean that most kitchens are used to handling allergies and special requests without fuss.
Where to Stay in Antalya
Most hair transplant packages include hotel accommodation, but if you are extending your stay, Antalya offers outstanding value — especially at its famous all-inclusive resorts.

Kaleici (Old Town)
Charming boutique hotels in restored Ottoman houses. Walkable to restaurants, harbour, and Hadrian's Gate. The most atmospheric place to stay.
Most charming

Lara Beach
Antalya's luxury resort strip. Five-star all-inclusive hotels with private beaches, pools, spas, and multiple restaurants. Think Cancun, but Turkish.
Best for resort recovery

Konyaalti
A modern beachfront neighbourhood with a long promenade, cafes, and a more local atmosphere. Close to the Antalya Museum and city centre.
Best beach & city balance

Belek (30 min east)
Turkey's golf capital. Ultra-luxury resorts with world-class golf courses, spas, and private beaches. Quieter and more exclusive.
Most luxurious

A five-star all-inclusive resort on Lara Beach — as little as $80 CAD per night with meals, drinks, and beach access included.
Getting Around Antalya
Airport Transfers & Taxis
Antalya Airport is just 13 kilometres from the city centre — about a 20-minute drive. Most clinic packages include airport pickup. If not, taxis cost approximately $15 to $25 CAD, or the Havas airport bus runs to the city centre for about $3 CAD. For getting around town, taxis are very affordable — a 15-minute ride costs about $3 to $7 CAD. Use the BiTaksi app for fair pricing.
Tram & Public Transport
Antalya has a modern tram system (Antray) that runs along the coast from the Antalya Museum through Kaleici to the eastern suburbs. A single ride costs about $0.50 CAD with an AntalyaKart (transit card). The nostalgic tram runs through the old town and is both practical and charming. For trips to Aspendos, Perge, or other nearby ruins, minibuses (dolmus) depart regularly from the main bus station and cost just a few dollars.
Rental Cars
If you want to explore the surrounding area — the ancient cities of Perge, Side, and Termessos, or the stunning Kaputas Beach — renting a car is easy and affordable. Rates start at about $20 to $30 CAD per day. Your Canadian driver's licence is valid in Turkey. The coastal roads are well-maintained and scenic.
Clinic Districts: Most hair transplant clinics in Antalya are located in the city centre, Lara, and Konyaalti areas. All are well-connected by tram and taxi.

Why You Should Add an Extra Day or Two
Antalya is the kind of place where medical patients turn into repeat holidaymakers.
You are already flying to Turkey. Adding one or two extra days costs very little — about $80 to $200 CAD for the hotel (all-inclusive), plus minimal extra for activities — and it transforms a medical trip into a genuine Mediterranean holiday. Here is what those extra days could look like:

Morning: Old Town & History
Start with a stroll through Kaleici's cobblestone streets. Walk through Hadrian's Gate, explore the old harbour, and visit the Antalya Museum. Grab a fresh simit and Turkish tea from a harbour cafe. Everything is within walking distance.

Afternoon: Beach & Relaxation
Head to Konyaalti or Lara Beach. Rent a sunbed for $3 CAD and spend the afternoon swimming in the crystal-clear Mediterranean. The water temperature is perfect from May through October. Fresh juice vendors walk the beach, and beachside restaurants serve grilled fish.

Evening: Harbour Dinner & Sunset
Watch the sunset from the cliffs above the old harbour, then head down for dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants. Fresh grilled sea bass, a glass of local wine, and the sound of waves — all for about $15 to $20 CAD. The harbour is magical after dark.

Day Two: Ancient Ruins & Coast
Take a day trip to the Aspendos Theatre (45 min) or the ancient city of Perge (20 min). In the afternoon, join a boat tour along the coast — swimming stops, lunch on board, and views of the Duden Waterfalls from the sea. Full-day tours cost about $25 to $35 CAD.
Two extra nights at an all-inclusive resort cost about $160 to $400 CAD with all meals and drinks included. That is a tiny addition to your overall trip budget, and it transforms a medical procedure into an unforgettable Mediterranean holiday you will talk about for years.
Practical Tips for Canadians in Antalya
Visa: Good news for Canadians — Turkey dropped its visa requirement in 2024. You can now fly in with just your passport and stay up to 90 days, no e-Visa application or border fees needed. One less thing to worry about before your procedure.
Language: Antalya has hosted European and Russian tourists for decades, so English is spoken widely across the resort strip, old town restaurants, and every reputable clinic. Your clinic coordinator will communicate with you in fluent English from your first consultation through to aftercare. A friendly merhaba or tesekkurler goes a long way with locals, though.
Currency & Payments: Turkey runs on the Turkish Lira (TRY), and Antalya's resort infrastructure means card machines are everywhere — from beachside cafes to corner shops. Your Canadian Visa or Mastercard will work at most places. Clinics usually price procedures in Euros or USD; we show CAD equivalents throughout our site. Withdraw Lira from any ATM for small purchases, and let your bank know you are travelling.
Safety: Antalya consistently ranks among Turkey's safest destinations. The resort areas along Lara and Konyaalti are heavily patrolled, and Kaleici's narrow streets are busy with tourists well into the evening. Stick to the same habits you would follow in Vancouver or Montreal — watch your belongings in crowded bazaars and use the BiTaksi app rather than hailing unmarked cars.
Internet & Phone: Hotel and clinic Wi-Fi is reliable across Antalya. If you want data on the go, grab a Turkey eSIM through Airalo or Holafly before you fly — plans start around $10 CAD for 5 GB. Physical SIM cards are also sold at Antalya Airport's arrivals hall for roughly $15 to $25 CAD.
Tipping: Service staff appreciate tips but do not expect them. Leaving 10 percent at a sit-down restaurant is the norm; for taxis, simply round up to the nearest five or ten Lira. If your clinic driver or coordinator has been especially helpful, 50 to 100 TL is a generous and well-received gesture.
Power Outlets: Turkey uses the standard European Type C and F sockets at 220 V. Pack a universal travel adapter — the same one that works across France, Germany, and the rest of Europe will do the job here.
Time Zone: Antalya sits in the TRT zone, which is seven hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time and eight hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Most Canadians fly to Europe overnight and arrive in Antalya in the evening local time, which means you sleep on the plane and wake up largely on schedule. Patients consistently tell us the jet lag is barely noticeable.
Sun Protection: With over 300 sunny days a year, Antalya's Mediterranean UV is far more intense than anything in Canada. After your transplant, direct sun on the grafts is the single biggest risk to your results. Pack a loose, wide-brimmed hat and SPF 50+ sunscreen, and plan outdoor sightseeing for the cooler morning or late-afternoon hours during your first two weeks.
Best Time to Visit Antalya
Antalya has a classic Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It is warmer than Istanbul year-round and gets significantly more sunshine.

Our top pick. Warm but not hot, wildflowers blooming, beaches uncrowded. Perfect for comfortable recovery and sightseeing.

Peak season. Hot and sunny — great for beach lovers but protect your scalp. Resorts are busiest; book well in advance.

Excellent. Sea is still warm enough for swimming, fewer tourists, and clinics often offer better pricing.

Mild by Canadian standards. Some rain, but still pleasant. Lowest prices and shortest wait times. Beaches are quiet.
Our recommendation: Spring and early autumn hit the ideal balance for hair transplant patients flying from Canada. Temperatures hover between 20 and 28°C, the Mediterranean is warm enough for a dip, resort crowds are thinner, and round-trip airfare typically runs $200 to $400 less than July or August bookings.
